An outlet for the research and discourse that has developed around the foundation’s activities in Oleśnica, Poland. Fundacja Art House has crafted it’s unique position in the cultural landscape through their project ‘Open Form’ (Forma Otwarta), which functions as a local community space, as well as a platform for regional and international artistic dialogue. Inspired by the work of architect Oskar Hansen, a rehabbed city information center was transformed through the efforts of the foundation and local cultural producers to become a multi-faceted space for the bi-directional production and presentation of culture framed by the intimacy of a small community.

Oskar Hansen’s ‘Open Form’ concept for architecture definines buildings or spaces by their function or potential function.

Our case study in Oleśnica seeks to apply this model to cultural institutions. The revitalized Info Point redefinies the cultural landscape of Oleśnica, serving as a nexus of artistic expression, community engagement, and architectural marvel. Collaborating with local cultural practitioners to define the nature of the program and to revitalize the space.

Originally a city information booth, the Forma Otwarta project began in 2019, with the activities continualy evolving through the growth and talents of its members. As an multipurpose space– part incubator and part exhibition venue, the Open Form presents a scalable solution to the problem of developing rich and sustainable culture in small places.
